Who We Are

The Biomass Energy Resource Center (BERC) is a program of Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC), an international, mission-driven non-profit headquartered in Burlington Vermont. BERC works to advance the use of community-scale biomass energy throughout North America and beyond by providing technical consulting services, biomass energy program design and delivery, and education and outreach on benefits and best practices. BERC works with communities, federal, state and local governments, colleges and universities, businesses, utilities, and others to use local biomass resources, invest in local energy systems, and reduce the use of fossil heating fuels.

With years of staff expertise in the field, and extensive relationships with other experts, manufacturers, suppliers, public agencies, and consultants, BERC is a national leader in the assessment, development, and management of community-scale biomass energy projects.

BERC's staff embodies a wide range of relevant professional experience and expertise, including biomass fuel systems, environmental policy and management, forestry, biomass fuel supply, and project and program management.

What We Do

BERC offers a wide range of services including:

Technical Consulting

  • performing pre-feasibility and feasibility studies
  • assessing biomass fuel availability and developing the supply chain
  • analyzing site considerations for biomass system potential
  • conducting third-party technical review
  • assessing and developing biomass public policy at the state, regional, and national levels

Biomass Energy Program Design and Delivery:

  • designing and implementing programs for state and federal agencies

Education and Outreach

  • providing information and education on biomass energy to communities and the general public
